Exhilarating Journey Of Shivam Jewels In Re-defining Diamond Cuts

Diamonds are one of the most precious and unique gifts of nature, known for their ability to transmit light and produce intense sparkle. But when diamonds are procured from nature in its rough form they are found in various shapes and sizes.

In their natural state rough diamonds are far from being spectacular and after appropriate and rigorous cutting only they are able to achieve their deemed spectacle and beauty.

Usually a diamond’s cut is termed for its shape only but in reality it actually refers to the diamond's ability to interact with the light. It determines how much light the stone can reflect contributing to its shine and sparkle.

Even though a diamond may have the highest grade in terms of colour, clarity and fluorescence but a poor cut will make it look dull and lifeless taking away its beauty and charm . Whereas on the other hand  if a diamond with lower grade is cut exceptionally well then its sparkle and scintillation which will subsequently make up for its shortcomings.

Over the last few years the cut of a fancy shape has become a prominent factor in deciding the pricing of the stone  although the cut isn't graded as the conventional Excellent, Very Good , Good & Fair but interestingly it has a significant role in the pricing of Fancy cut diamonds.

Today the technological advancements have made diamond cutting much more precise and sophisticated, hence for fancy shaped diamonds in order to retain its exclusivity a careful study is needed following are some factors which have helped us achieve that finesse in manufacturing fine fancy shapes:

Avoiding the Bow Tie / Open window effect

Unlike the inclusion in a diamond, dealing with the bow tie effect is very tricky as it cannot be detected during the planning of rough stone, since it is dependent on the facet placements. Even though bow - ties cannot be completely avoided, over the years by improvising on our diamond model and facet arrangement we are able to make our bowties as  faint as possible in order to add more luster to our stones.

Intricate Pavillion Faceting

The beauty of a fancy shape primarily depends on the pavilion faceting as it redirects the light entering through the crown to the eyes determining the scintillation of the stone. It is important to give the right number of facets at the pavilion as it enhances brilliance and sparkle.

Congruent Measurements

Each facet of a diamond plays an instrumental role in determining the exclusivity of a fancy shape diamond. A fine cut diamond is the one in which its major elements being the table, crown height and pavilion are in Harmony with each other. One that is  meticulously planned,  maintaining the ideal length to width ratio for each shape in order to make it appealing from all the aspects.

Inclusion placement

Inclusions are the underwhelming aspect of a diamond which immensely affects it’s appearance. Even though it is possible to avoid inclusions in the cutting process at the cost of losing weight, but if not avoided, placing those inclusions in the densely faceted knock area of a Fancy shape diamond makes them less eye catching since the facets are dense and the interaction with light is low so that they are not as much visible to the naked eyed.

The journey of developing a standardized inventory of thousands of fancy shaped diamonds was enchanting within itself. But it was only possible with the help of our customer’s feedback and the innumerable hours put into planning and polishing by our team in order to fulfill our commitment to excellence.
